The presented data indicated that for the PMMA bottles used in our experiments, the affinity for the wall is of similar magnitude to the iron capacity and affinity for naturally occurring ligands in seawater. This makes that iron wall sorption should be seriously considered in small volume experiments, both in assessments of shorter-term dynamics and in end-point observations in equilibrium conditions. Furthermore the effect of two strong Fe-binding organic ligands, phytic acid (PA) and desferrioxamine B (DFOB) was investigated. A comparison of selected thyristor-based fault current limiters. $49.99 Fault current limiters (FCL) are proposed to overcome the adverse effects of extremely high fault current levels in distribution systems since they are capable of operating within a quarter cycle of the fundamental frequency (compare with 2.5 cycles for the fastest electromechanical breakers). This fast operation makes it possible that the distribution equipment be not subjected to the initial large peaks associated with fault currents. Among the re-healing fuses, solid-state and superconducting FCL implementations this seminar considers solid-state FCL based on thyristors that reduce fault current levels by either increasing the impedance along the path of the fault current, or reducing the voltage applied to the fault. The impedance of the fault current path can be increased by inserting a resistor, an inductor or a LC resonant tank. Alternatively, the voltage applied to the fault could be reduced by operating the thyristors as an ac voltage controller. These FCL types are evaluated and compared using circuit analysis and PSCAD-based computer simulations. A parametric analysis is then performed to determine the impact that the fault-detection time delay, thyristor turn-off time, current-limiting impedance and the resonant frequency for all types have upon the FCL design. A case study is presented of a simple 13.8 kV distribution system taking into account all FCL types. Finally, a practical case study with multiple selected type FCLs of an industrial plant are considered.
