I recently had Limewire, but the site has been down since October 26, 2010 due to legal matters. Napster now charges for music, so I need something where I can get free music that doesn’t give my computer viruses. Thanks!
Bearshare and a good antivirus software. This is my combination.. better be safe than sorry!

Crime: Computer Viruses to Twin Towers $39.92 This book is an overview of the United States legal system, with a brief introduction to Islamic and International law. The book is divided into six parts. Part I (The Legal System and Crime) introduces the U.S. legal system and the classification of crime. Part II (White Collar Crime) covers cybercrime, crime the old fashioned way, and healthcare fraud. Part III (Homicide) deals with simple murder, serial murder, mass and spree murder; and assassination. Part IV (Special Groups) covers the mafia; the family; the medical, legal, and teaching professions; the religion profession; celebrities; and stupid criminals. Part V (On the Edge) deals with topics I consider to be a bit strange; that is, quackery, innovative defenses, and dangerous cults. And finally, Part VI (Residue) discusses what is left … capital punishment and crimes against humanity, including terrorism. Throughout the book, to illustrate points, I have used over 300 cases of actual crimes. The names of the people and the facts of the cases used in the discussions of these crimes are taken directly from referenced news reports. The subtitle, Computer Viruses to Twin Towers, reflects the scope of the book; that is, from computer viruses, which cause only aggravation or loss of money, to the deadly terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 that snuffed out almost 3000 lives. |

Introduction to Viruses $106.74 A virus is a biological agent that reproduces inside the cells of living hosts. When infected by a virus, a host cell is forced to produce many thousands of identical copies of the original virus, at an extraordinary rate. Unlike most living things, viruses do not have cells that divide; new viruses are assembled in the infected host cell. Over 2,000 species of viruses have been discovered. A virus consists of two or three parts: all viruses have genes made from either DNA or RNA, long molecules that carry the genetic information; all have a protein coat that protects these genes; and some have an envelope of fat that surrounds them when they are not within a cell. Viruses vary in shape from the simple helical and icosahedral to more complex structures. Viruses are about 100 times smaller than bacteria, and it would take 30,000 to 750,000 of them, side by side, to stretch to 1 centimetre (0.39 in). Viruses spread in many different ways. Plant viruses are often spread from plant to plant by insects and other organisms, known as vectors. Some viruses of animals are spread by bloodsucking insects. Each species of virus relies on a particular method. A Planet of Viruses $12.59 Viruses are the smallest living things known to science, and yet they hold the entire planet in their sway. We’re most familiar with the viruses that give us colds or the flu, but viruses also cause a vast range of other diseases, including one disorder that makes people sprout branch-like growths as if they were trees. Viruses have been a part of our lives for so long, in fact, that we are actually part virus: the human genome contains more DNA from viruses than our own genes. Meanwhile, scientists are discovering viruses everywhere they look: in the soil, in the ocean, even in deep caves miles underground. This fascinating book explores the hidden world of viruses-a world that each of us inhabit. Here Carl Zimmer, popular science writer and author of Discover magazine’s award-winning blog The Loom, presents the latest research on how viruses hold sway over our lives and our biosphere, how viruses helped give rise to the first life-forms, how viruses are producing new diseases, how we can harness viruses for our own ends, and how viruses will continue to control our fate for years to come. In this eye-opening tour through the frontiers of biology, where scientists are expanding our understanding of life as we know it, we learn that some treatments for the common cold do more harm to us than good; that the world’s oceans are home to an astonishing 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 viruses; and that the evolution of HIV is now in overdrive, spawning more mutated strains than we care to imagine. The New York Times Book Review calls Carl Zimmer "as fine a science essayist as we have." A Planet of Viruses is sure to please his many fans and further enhance his reputation as one of America’s most respected and admired science journalists. |

Hepatitis Viruses $3.95 Evaluates the carcinogenic risk to humans posed by exposure to three hepatotropic viruses: hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C viruses, and the hepatitis D virus, which exists as a satellite agent of hepatitis B virus. Among the several viruses that can cause hepatitis, these three were selected for evaluation because of their potential to induce chronic liver infection. The most extensive monograph evaluates the large body of data suggesting a link between infection with hepatitis B virus and hepatocellular carcinoma in humans. The evaluation takes on particular importance in view of the high prevalence of chronic infection with this virus, particularly in developing countries. A brief summary of the structure of the virus and methods for its detection and analysis is followed by a thorough assessment of human exposure data, including patterns of transmission and factors influencing the course and clinical manifestations of infection, studies of cancer in humans, and studies of cancer in primates, transgenic mice, woodchucks, ground squirrels, ducks and other species. In view of the strong association between hepatocellular carcinoma and chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus demonstrated in numerous studies, the monograph concludes that chronic infection with hepatitis B virus is carcinogenic to humans. The second monograph evaluates data on hepatitis C virus, which is the etiological agent in most cases of post-transfusion hepatitis. Following a similar format of evaluation, the monograph concludes that chronic infection with hepatitis C virus is carcinogenic to humans. The final monograph evaluates data on hepatitis D virus, a satellite agent of hepatitis B virus with no known natural host other than humans. Because of methodological problems and inconsistencies in the evidence, infection with hepatitis D virus could not be classified as to its carcinogenicity to humans. |

Computer Terrorism $23.71 Nearly 20 years ago, in December 1992, I submitted this research in partial fulfillment of a requirement for my Doctor of Philosophy degree in Security Administration at Southwest University located in Kenner (New Orleans), LA. The title of my research was initially called "Terrorist and Hostile Intelligence Actions Against Computer Resources." Much of what I said 20 years ago still rings true today: the terrorists are getting smarter and the proliferation of viruses and their use by foreign countries and in wartime situations comes to mind. This book is basically divided into four sections: The Destruction of Computer Resources By Terrorist Groups: An Historical Perspective; Hackers and Hostile Intelligence Agents as Computer Terrorists; Computer Resources Being Used By Terrorists; and Methodology to Reduce the Vulnerability to Your Computer Center. |

Molecular Biology of Plant Viruses $390.33 Two decades ago, recombinant DNA technology or genetic engineering ushered in a new era in the study of plant viruses. The major breakthrough came in the eighties, primarily due to the development of new methods for RNA reverse transcription and cDNA cloning, along with restriction enzyme mapping and rapid nucleotide sequencing. An information explosion in various molecular aspects of plant viruses was caused by these studies. Current research efforts investigate the study of viral genomes, genetic maps, genes and gene expression, gene products, and genetic basis of virus functions and biological properties. Molecular Biology of Plant Viruses analyzes, collates and reviews such published information. Additionally, it demonstrates the mechanisms of genetic variability; brings out the molecular basis of virus transport in plants and of virus transmission by vectors and of disease symptomatology; and discusses molecular biology of viroids and transgenic plants. It also treats the recently discovered genetic phenomenon of gene silencing and the geneforgene interactions between the hosts and plant viruses. Molecular Biology of Plant Viruses is an excellent reference, providing insight into the exciting research developments made in the field. Author: Mandahar, Chuni L. Beneficial Mutations in Lytic Viruses $135.42 Lytic viruses are obligate parasites whose adaptation rates have attracted considerable scientific interest, as they are a key model organism in experimental evolution. Adaptation experiments using these viruses are characterized by growth, mutation, and periodic sampling that ultimately influence the fate of a rare beneficial mutation. In this book, we first discuss the concept of fixation probability in context of a literature review. Next, we develop a model that captures the essential lifehistory traits of lytic viruses. The model is then used to study the fixation probabilities and adaptation rates of beneficial mutations in these traits, largely in context of experimental evolution. The results and analysis of this book provide a theoretical guideline on the qualitative nature of results that would be expected through experimentation. The Evolution and Emergence of RNA Viruses $62.47 RNA viruses provide unique insights into the patterns and processes of evolutionary change in real time. The study of viral evolution is especially topical given the growing awareness that emerging and re-emerging diseases (most of which are caused by RNA viruses) represent a major threat to public health. However, while the study of viral evolution has developed rapidly in the last 30 years, relatively little attention has been directed toward linking work on the mechanisms of viral evolution within cells or individual hosts, to the epidemiological outcomes of these processes. This novel book fills this gap by considering the patterns and processes of viral evolution across their entire range of spatial and temporal scales. The Evolution and Emergence of RNA Viruses provides a comprehensive overview of RNA virus evolution. This is the first book to link mechanisms of viral evolution to epidemiological outcomes, incorporating case studies in RNA virus emergence and evolution using topical examples such as influenza, HIV, dengue fever, and rabies. It reveals the underlying evolutionary processes by which emerging viruses cross species boundaries and spread in new hosts. |

A Thin Dark Line $7.99 The Barnes & Noble Review April 1997 Charles Platt has “very little interest in history.” The writer of over forty books and his own computer software, Platt remarks that he is “much more interested in the future, and [has] spent a lot of time writing and thinking about that.” He has contributed more than a dozen articles to Wired magazine, and his novel The Silicon Man was chosen as one of the top three science fiction novels of the year by The New York Times. Charles Platt is looking to the future, and as everyday life moves into its new digs online, very real legal and social issues concerning cyberspace crime and virtual sex need to be examinied. Anarchy Online is really two books bound together in one volume. In the first half of Anarchy Online, Charles Platt frankly lays out evidence of crime on the Internet. From famous hackers like Kevin Mitnick, to anonymous users who crack into satellite cable channel codes, to local online sheriffs busting illegal bulletin board operators, the book documents individual cases in a chronological and nonpartisan fashion. Platt details the modus operandi of everyone from urban phone “phreaks” to the savviest online pirates. Just as quickly, he interviews the lawmakers — including the deputy director of the FBI in charge of formulating government legal policy concerning the Internet — in hopes of answering the question of whether or not new laws will protect the everyday user or corporation from intrusion, vandalism and viruses. There are issues of free speech at stake here. Part two of AnarchyOnlineconcentrates on the social implications of netspeech. Should pornographic, violent, innaccurate, or hate-filled content in chat rooms and on websites be regulated? How much of it can be legally deemed “obscene,” and is there a way to direct the discussion in cyberspace short of setting up |

Anticmos.B (Computer Virus) $42.99 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! AntiCMOS.B is a boot virus. It was isolated in mid-1995. Like AntiCMOS.A, AntiCMOS.B became common worldwide. However, this variant never reached the success level of the original, and is now considered obsolete (the original is still occasionally reported).Additionally, AntiCMOS.B attempts to play a tune, but this fails due to coding errors . AntiCMOS.B is otherwise a typical boot virus, much like its predecessor. AntiCMOS is a boot virus. Its first discovery was at Lenart, Slovenia, which led to its alias of Lenart. It was isolated in Hong Kong several times at the beginning of 1994, but did not become common until it spread to North America in the Spring of 1995. AntiCMOS is a fairly standard boot virus, and is primarily notable for being one of the few DOS viruses to remain in the wild as of 2005. AntiCMOS is so named because it has the intended effect of erasing all CMOS information. This does not occur because of a bug in the virus code. This is true of all AntiCMOS variants that have appeared in the wild. |

At the Edge of Art $10.72 Desktop computer technology and the Internet have opened up new possibilities for artistic creation, distribution, and appreciation. But in addition to projects that might conventionally be described as new-media art, there is now a wide spectrum of work—unclassified until this book—by practitioners not normally thought of as “artists.” Engineers, software programmers, biologists, and architects, among others, are producing work on the Internet that can only be described as “art.” Or can it?As rapid technological and scientific advances raise new cultural, ethical, and moral issues, while the white walls of the conventional museum or gallery seem to be straitjacketing cultural development, Joline Blais and Jon Ippolito confront our definition of art. The book explores six strands of creation: Code as Muse: new artistic possibilities opened up by computer programming; Deep Play: new narrative forms and aesthetics of computer games; Autobotography: the rise of Webcam-based performance art; Designing Politics: seemingly real Web sites, used to subvert commercial and political enterprise;Preserving Artificial Life: a new biology established via human-engineered viruses and other digital life-forms; and Reweaving Community: the emergence of an online art world whose fugitive existence resists definition. |

Battle Against Adware And Spyware: Protect Your Computer From Adware And Spyware Threats With This Definitive Guide That Will Teach You The Best Anti Adware And Spyware Removal Programs For Optimal Computer Security And Performance $3.99 In a world wherein technology plays a big role in human beings’ comfort, leisure, and learning, the personal computer and the Internet have become very indispensable tools. However, as more and more people become dependent on these two, you come to see others who take advantage of computer users everywhere and cause them nuisance and damage – using the same technology that’s meant to make life easier. It’s no wonder then why it’s very hard nowadays to keep your computers free of unwanted advertisements. As if spams and viruses are not bad enough, people invented spyware and adware, which basically work together to bring your Internet connection experience to a crawl, as well as bombard your computer with popup advertisements, and compromise your privacy and security. Spywares and adwares are not only annoying but more often than not tend to damage your computer software and sometimes can even cause some damage to your hardware too. These annoying bugs have become a bane for internet browsers worldwide. They have become a normal occurrence that we sometimes tend to ignore but God forbid we should never accept. Spyware and Adware had done better than viruses as a threat to the theft of user information and break down of computer performance. Adware is a form of spam that automatically lets advertisements pop out of nowhere. The advertising ads may involve websites or products which you will be forced to view even if you really do not want to pay attention to it. Spyware on the other hand, covertly monitors your Internet and computer use. Some spyware are malicious, in such a way that some collect passwords, user ID’s, credit card numbers, and some other sensitive details about the user. Besides giving a user problems connected to privacy and ethics, spyware robs you through usage of the computer’s memory, as well as eating of bandwidth making Internet exploration slower than ever. |

Beyond The Library Of The Future $37 With insightful comments from a variety of sources-and a generous dose of humor-Shuman builds fictional scenarios that are guaranteed to get librarians thinking, What if…? Eight new scenarios explore such developments as virtual reality, robots, time travel, computer viruses, security, and more-all within the context of the public library (or cybrary, as the author calls it). Written in a conversational tone, the book is intended to stimulate discourse and exploration of issues. Current trends are carefully woven into each scenario as Shuman investigates issues surrounding the library’s role in the future. A list of quotations about the future and an extensive bibliography for further reading conclude the work. This book is a sequel to (not a revision of) Shuman’s previous work The Library of the Future. Like its predecessor, it is entertaining and thought-provoking-a great read for librarians, library administrators, and students in library school. |
